So, this past week I went to see ‘127 hours’. As the film starts, the intro (stylistically) threw me off. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but it fit well with the tone as a whole. ‘127 Hours’ is about the story of Aron Ralston, a mountain climber, who becomes trapped by a boulder, left alone with limited water and supplies. We see how he battles with survival as he examines his life.

This Film is not for the faint-hearted. I seriously had to look away a few times. It is graphic! Knowing this and the outcome of the story, was it still enjoyable? I thought so. James Franco certainly was brilliant in his performance. As an actor (Aznactor), it is incredibly difficult to play a character without someone to play against. The challenge is to bring energy and creativity to the performance without seeming forced or rehearsed but organic. Franco, very convincingly portrays the agony and gut wrenching panic of someone in the position of Aron Ralston.

Despite the tension throughout the film. I felt encouraged to go rock climbing, exploring, spelunking, to go on an adventure. That was the beautiful simplicity of ‘127 Hours’. As we are journeying with Aron, we are deeply examining his life with him, and hopefully ours as well.

I highly recommend this film. But be warned though, I was very woozy at moments during this film and reports of people fainting have been made.
